    The spinney is where time stands still, it is silent, a space of shelter and mystery. In this moment a place of freedom, the cradling safe place away from the dangers of the world is the place of secrets to be discovered. The forest or wooded area is often seen as a place of possible danger, of meeting with animals, or the one whose eyebrows meet in the middle. A 7 year old child climbs the Maple tree; on the way down she slips and falling she finds herself dangling upside down from the tree caught by the waist band of her skirt. In that moment she believes she is flying. Various birds approach and fly by her.
